Petals & Sugar
By WhimsDecor

Creating these botanical sugar gems is a simple way to bring tabletop artistry to your kitchen with very little effort. They are perfect for gifting or elevating a morning coffee service.

Ingredients & Supplies
To get that high-end look, focus on the quality of the botanical elements.
Granulated White Sugar: 1 cup (organic or extra-fine works best for detail).
Water: 1–2 teaspoons (you want the consistency of wet sand).
Botanical Inclusions: 1 tablespoon of dried culinary lavender, crushed vanilla bean, or dried mint.
Natural Color (Optional): A drop of fruit juice (like beet or blueberry) if you want a soft pastel tint.
Silicone Molds: Small floral, honeycomb, or geometric shapes.
Step-by-Step Instructions
This simple six-step process creates gems that look like they came from an artisan shop.
Step 1: Prep the Sugar Base
In a small bowl, mix your sugar with the dried botanicals until the fragrance is well distributed.
Step 2: Hydrate Carefully
Add the water one teaspoon at a time. Stir until the sugar feels like damp sand that holds its shape when squeezed. If it's too wet, the gems won't dry properly.
Step 3: Pack the Molds
Press the mixture firmly into your silicone molds. Use the back of a spoon to pack it down tightly—the more compressed the sugar is, the better the botanical details will show.
Step 4: Level the Backs
Scrape off any excess sugar from the top of the mold so the "gems" have a flat base.
Step 5: Dry and Set
Let the molds sit at room temperature for at least 24 hours. In a rush? Place them in an oven at its lowest setting (around 170°F) for 20–30 minutes until hardened.

Step 6: Unmold
Gently pop the gems out of the silicone mold. Store them in an airtight glass jar to keep them crisp and fragrant.
Styling Tip
For your "daily decor drop," try displaying these in a minimalist apothecary jar with a simple black and white label. The contrast between the organic textures of the sugar and a clean, modern vessel creates a beautiful visual for social media.
