Ushpizin Wall Hanging

By WhimsDecor

Seven canvas wall hangings decorated with macramé art depicting biblical figures and motifs, each labeled with a Hebrew name, are suspended in a row from a rustic rope against a neutral backdrop adorned with string lights and greenery.

Create a stunning 7 Ushpizin String Art Wall Hanging that's elegant, meaningful, and beautiful enough to become part of your Sukkah year after year.

Each of the seven canvases honors one of the Ushpizin - the seven guests we welcome into the sukkah - with a simple string-art design and its name in Hebrew beneath it. Since the piece comes together one canvas at a time, it's a relaxed project you can spread over a week of afternoons.

What You'll Need

  • 7 small canvases (5x7" or 6x6")

  • Printable Ushpizin templates

  • Carbon paper

  • Brass upholstery tacks or decorative push pins

  • Small hammer

  • Embroidery floss or cotton twine in coordinating colors

  • Hot glue gun

  • Wooden beads

  • Cotton tassels

  • Jute rope for hanging

How to Make It

  1. Print the seven Ushpizin templates.

  2. Place carbon paper between the template and the canvas, then trace the design.

  3. Hammer brass tacks around the outline, spacing them about ¼–½ inch apart.

  4. Remove the paper template.

  5. Tie your embroidery floss or cotton twine to one tack.

  6. Wrap the twine from tack to tack, following the design until the image is complete.

  7. Add the Hebrew name beneath each design using vinyl letters or a paint marker.

  8. Hot glue a tassel and a few wooden beads to the bottom of each canvas.

  9. Hang all seven canvases from a length of jute rope, leaving a small space between each one.

Have fun with color! Soft, earthy neutrals give the set a calm, heirloom feel; or wrap each guest's design in its own jewel tone so every canvas has a personality of its own.
